Necessity, capability, drive and passion are usually one of the reasons we do what we do for a living. The reasons that prompted me to launch Horizons were all-encompassing.
Bored of traditionalism and the same old same old, a need for a new formula in the agency-client equation, an urge to walk hand in hand with businesses and achieve their goals faster and a desire to lead with experience not expiry dates.
After spending a lifetime in the communication industry, I took a break. A break to pause and reflect on the journey; on all the changes and evolutions; all the challenges and successes. I realised that there is always room for one more; there is always opportunity to grow and there is always a need to evolve and embrace change.
As a society, the demand for flexibility and freedom has increased. Technology is evolving rapidly and so are our rules of engagement. Our work-life balance is being questioned - whilst our desire to commit diminishes. The traditional agency-client relation is out the window, but the one thing that is constant is that we are all learning together.
Adapting to a new approach in communications is the key. Today, clients are not profit margins - they are partners. Employees are not payrolls - they are permalancers. Big ideas and great work come together when we embrace and accept the new rules of engagement.
My goal as a communications specialist is to lead by example as we break the rules, blur the lines and open new horizons.
